PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates National Museum Of Indian Cinema; Asks Celebrities, “How’s The Josh?”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai yesterday. A host of celebrities such as Manoj Kumar, Jeetendra, Randhir Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Kangana Ranaut,  filmmakers Rohit Shetty, Karan Johar and Aanand L Rai among others attended the event. At the beginning of the speech, the PMO happened to invoke a line from the recently-released Uri: The Surgical Strike, “How’s the Josh?” which led to massive applause and then crowd shouted, “High sir.”

“Films and society are a reflection of each other. What you see in films is happening in society and what is happening in society is seen in films. This shows India is changing. Earlier, poverty was considered a virtue... Films were about poverty, helplessness. Now, along with problems, solutions are also being seen. If there are a million problems, there are a billion solutions,” he said in his speech.

He added, “Once only rich people from “tier 1 cities” could enter the film industry, but now artistes from tier 2 and tier 3 cities are getting a foothold on the strength of their artistic abilities.”

“Films used to take 10-15 years to get completed. Famous films were actually known for the (long) time taken for their completion... Now films get finished in a few months and in a stipulated time-frame. Similar is the case of government schemes. They are now being finished in a stipulated time-frame.” Modi further said.

The National Museum of Indian Cinema has been set up to showcase the rich cinematic history of India as well as to encapsulate socio-cultural history of India as revealed through evolution of cinema. It will take the visitors through an absorbing journey of more than a century of Indian Cinema in a story telling mode with the help of visuals and graphics, film clippings, artifacts, publicity materials, interactive exhibits and many more.

Located at Films Division Complex in South Mumbai, it is spread over two buildings, in the historic Gulshan Mahal and New Museum Building. The New Museum Building consists of four levels: Level 1 – Gandhi & Cinema, Level 2 – Children’s Film Studio, Level 3 – Technology, Creativity and Indian Cinema and Level 4 – Cinema across India. The New Museum Building will also have two Auditoriums, equipped with State-of-the-Art Digital Cinema Projectors and 7.1 surround sound system.
